Having studied and worked in the US and UK before moving to Beirut, Ahmad has experience both as an architect, furniture designer, installation artist, and fabricator. He has worked at a number of architecture firms on projects ranging in scale from low and highrise residential, commercial and furniture and interior detailing. He is a graduate of Columbia and Berkeley Universities and currently a part-time faculty member at LAU and AUB where he teaches parametric design. He is the founder of DAMJ design + craft, a design and fabrication company specializing in architecture, furniture, lighting, interior detailing, digital consulting and CNC fabrication.
Based on a love of mathematics, the Swirling Lamp gets its character from the connection of a series of proportional rectangles superimposed on a parabolic shape. Manufacturing is done by laser-cutting and 3d-printing. Assembly is a simple feat using a set of snap-fit connectors.
Diamond Platter brings the intersection of a set of arcs to form a pattern of diamond-like shapes. The diamonds are carved through CNC-milling and filled with walnut wood paste. Versions of the design are availble in different fill colors in addition to sadaf (mother-of-pearl).
